The Opportunity

MAK Anesthesia, a physician-led and employee-owned private anesthesia group practice headquartered in Kennesaw, GA is seeking a System Chief of Anesthesia to serve as the senior clinical and operational leader for MAK’s Wellstar service line. The role is built on an expectation of both clinical practice and onsite administrative leadership, building relationships and attending meetings across the hospitals or at the corporate office. Maintaining a clinical presence at multiple Wellstar hospitals is critical to building relationships and remaining connected to the providers. Therefore, working and embedding clinical time across multiple sites is central to the job.

Having previously provided anesthesia services at two of Wellstar’s six hospitals in Atlanta, MAK has significantly expanded its partnership with the system and is now the exclusive provider of anesthesia services at all of Wellstar’s metro Atlanta locations, including their network of outpatient health parks. This is the first time that anesthesia has been consolidated across the Wellstar system. The person who steps into it will set the standard for what system clinical leadership within anesthesia means at Wellstar and for MAK.

Together this footprint supports a full range of services, acuity, and represents roughly 100+ anesthetizing locations on a typical day and a clinical team of approximately 85 anesthesiologists and 200 advanced practice providers. The Chief reports directly to the President of MAK Anesthesia and functions as a system leader within Wellstar. Site anesthesia medical directors report to the Chief, who carries heavy influence over both administrative and clinical hiring, scheduling, and performance management across the footprint. The central mandate is integration.

The Chief’s defining challenge — and opportunity — is to make that blended team feel and function as one team: standardizing care, building trust, and creating a shared culture and identity rooted in our purpose
