Mid-America Science Museum, a nationally-recognized accredited museum focused on STEM education and interactive science learning seeks a thoughtful, dynamic, and mission-driven leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer. The Museum is grounded in its 47-year history of cultivating the futures of young minds, and it has been stewarded through 14 years of success and expansion under its retiring CEO. The next CEO will build on the Museum’s strong foundation, advancing its mission, expanding its reach, strengthening its profile and guiding the organization through its next phase of growth and impact.
The Opportunity
Building on the Museum’s strong foundation, the next CEO will provide visionary and strategic leadership to guide the organization’s growth, relevance, visibility and impact. In partnership with the Board of Trustees and staff, the CEO will develop a new strategic plan that advances MASM’s mission, expands philanthropic support, deepens community engagement and builds the organization’s influence regionally and nationally.
The CEO provides financial and operational leadership of the institution, particularly around contributed and earned revenue development, quality of facilities and services, exhibitions and capital projects. Areas of focus include coordinating funding to support maintenance of facilities and expansion of exhibits; serving as thought leader on organizational matters; overseeing and directing policies and procedures relative to museum operations; and leading efforts for process improvements and performance enhancements.
Alongside a lean, dedicated team ready to grow in capacity and expertise, the CEO will lead the development of a bold new gallery plan that reimagines the visitor experience for the next generation, while working to maintain and continuously update facility infrastructure to create a dynamic environment for learning and discovery.
In addition to leading the Museum’s flagship science center campus, the next CEO will also oversee Mystic Ozark, the organization’s newly launched immersive attraction located in downtown Hot Springs. Together, these two destinations serve distinct yet complementary audiences and represent a significant expansion of the Museum’s mission, visibility and potential impact.
Ensuring the financial health of both institutions will require the next CEO to refine and articulate their value proposition to new and existing audiences and stakeholders across the Hot Springs region, the state of Arkansas, and the national science community in order to build investment in both entities and expand individual and institution giving capacity.
Compensation & Benefits
The total compensation range for this role is $150,000-200,000, plus a competitive benefits package which includes employer-subsidized medical and dental insurance, a Simple IRA with employer match, paid time off, professional development support and museum membership benefits.
