North Carolina A&T State University, the nation’s largest HBCU and a rising national powerhouse in Division I athletics, seeks a visionary, nationally respected leader to serve as its next Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (Chief Athletics Officer).  This is a defining leadership opportunity at a pivotal moment in intercollegiate athletics. The successful candidate will inherit a tradition-rich program with national championship pedigree and will be charged with elevating it into a top-tier, revenue-generating, nationally visible athletics enterprise that sets the standard among HBCUs and competes prominently on the national stage.   Reporting to Chancellor Martin, the next Director will operate at the intersection of college athletics, business, media, and culture, building a modern athletics model that fully embraces NIL, the transfer portal era, media rights expansion, and the increasing professionalization of collegiate sports.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is home to one of the most storied and successful athletic programs among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Competing as the Aggies, the university is a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), having transitioned from the Big South, and the MEAC in recent years to compete at the highest levels of NCAA Division I.   Consistent with the mission statement of the University to provide an intellectual environment where students develop a sense of identification, belonging, responsibility, and achievement that prepares them for leadership and service in regional, national and global communities, the department of athletics provides a comprehensive program of intercollegiate competition as an integral part of the total educational experience for all students.

The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics serves as the chief architect and executive leader of a dynamic NCAA Division I athletics program, responsible for competitive excellence, enterprise growth, and holistic student-athlete development.  This role requires a CEO mindset, combining business acumen, cultural fluency, and competitive drive within the context of an institution rooted in its legacy of bold innovation. The ideal candidate will be a visionary strategist with a proven record of building winning programs and sustainable enterprises, bringing an entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrated success in revenue generation, NIL, and business innovation. This leader will be a dynamic communicator and relationship builder with national reach, possessing‑ a deep understanding of the rapidly evolving Division I athletics landscape.

Responsibilities for this full-time position will be performed on-site in North Carolina. Salary will be commensurate with experience and accompanied by a generous benefits package.
