Prospect Hill Academy (PHA), founded in 1996, educates students with the mission to prepare each student for success in college, inspire a lifelong love of learning, and foster responsible citizenship. With a distinguished academic reputation and a 30-year history of serving students, PHA is a model for instilling the values of college- and career-ready success in a highly diverse student population. Motivated by a belief that all students can reach their goals through a supportive, project-based, college prep environment, the School’s dedicated faculty, staff, and leaders focus every day on making those goals a reality for the School’s approximately 900 students. Although it is a single PreK-12 entity, PHA’s students attend schools across three campuses throughout the Cambridge/Somerville area.
The Role of Head of School
Prospect Hill Academy’s current Head of School, Dr. Angela Allen will be retiring after the 2026-2027 academic year. As such, PHA’s Board of Trustees is seeking a new candidate for the Head of School role. The Head of School is responsible for the overall management of Prospect Hill Academy Charter School and will be responsible for the School’s success in meeting its instructional, school culture, operations, fundraising, external relations, and financial management goals. The Head of School will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and 15-member Board of Trustees serving as the primary liaison between the School and its external audiences, such as, but not limited to, funders, state chartering authorities, the broader community, and other key partners. Managing an approximately $26 million annual operating budget and a community made up of approximately 200 teachers and staff.
Essential Functions
● Leading the vision for PHA’s success in equity and excellence in education for every student, including ensuring that its instructional program, school culture and climate, community engagement, and external partnerships are highly effective and tightly aligned to the school mission and goals;
● Inspiring students, faculty, families, and other partners to be their best selves every day, always keeping the community’s moral compass pointing in the right direction, and ensuring an unyielding focus at all times on what is best for PHA’s scholars, their families and community, and their futures;
● Managing school leaders and other senior staff, acting not only as a supervisor but also as a coach and consensus builder, remaining deeply committed to the values of developing and bringing out the strengths of all of PHA’s people while also holding them accountable for their goals and desired outcomes for the whole community;
● Partnering with the Board of Trustees and funders to secure and allocate the resources and support necessary to maintain the health of the school organization, remaining solutions-oriented and grounded in reality as needed, while pushing the boundaries of what is possible to realize the highest levels of success for all students and their families;
● Overseeing the sustainability and growth of student enrollment strategies, facilities planning, and fundraising/resource development; and
● Bringing an entrepreneurial and solutions-oriented approach to address multifaceted complex challenges and identify promising opportunities that strengthen the organization’s long-term viability and impact.
