La Clínica de La Raza is seeking a visionary, mission-driven CEO to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. Founded in 1971 during a period of immense political and social change, La Clínica emerged from grassroots efforts led by a group of UC Berkeley students and community activists. Their mission was both urgent and personal—to fill the dangerous void in healthcare access experienced by low-income Latino and immigrant communities in East Oakland.
What began as a small, volunteer-run storefront clinic has since grown into a far-reaching health system, but its core purpose has remained unchanged: to provide high-quality, culturally competent healthcare for underserved populations, regardless of their ability to pay. Today, La Clínica de La Raza includes over 40 sites of care across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties, serving more than 86,000 patients annually through over 328,000 visits.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO leads La Clínica by setting strategic direction, shaping policy, and overseeing overall organizational performance and management. This role is responsible for strengthening the organization’s capacity, driving growth, and ensuring both quality care and long-term financial sustainability. A collaborative and transparent communicator, the CEO builds trusted relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders—including public and private partners, government officials at all levels, and leaders in the academic, business, and medical communities. With a focus on innovation, accountability, and operational alignment, the CEO will cultivate a resilient culture empowering teams and promoting a strong executive leadership group and management workforce that will ensure the delivery of sustainable, high-quality care to the communities La Clínica serves for years to come.
The ideal CEO is a visionary, mission-driven leader with a deep commitment to health equity and serving underserved communities. They must possess a strong understanding of the FQHC regulatory environment, including HRSA compliance, 340B, value-based care models, and Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement structures. With a proven track record of strategic leadership in complex healthcare settings, the CEO will balance financial stewardship with operational excellence, ensuring sustainable growth and high-quality, integrated care across multiple service lines. The ideal CEO excels in building collaborative relationships—with staff, community partners, and governing boards—and is adept at cultivating a high-performing, culturally competent workforce. The new leader must be seasoned, nimble and adept at handling change and navigating the current political and fiscal headwinds that the industry is facing. Above all, they lead with integrity, transparency, and an unwavering focus on improving community health outcomes.

- Demonstrated ability and experience in recruiting, retaining, and building executive leadership teams.
