The Opportunity

KACF seeks a Director of Development to lead individual giving and major gift strategy and implementation in New York, and support development growth and donor engagement across the country. Working in close partnership with the President, Vice President of Development, and the Board of Directors, s/he will serve as a trusted fundraising thought leader and mobilizer who will marshal the organization’s resources—including board, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders—to achieve fundraising results that will ensure growth and sustainability for KACF.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the VP of Development to create and implement annual and longer-term development plans, with emphasis on enhanced donor cultivation and stewardship to grow KACF’s donor base and inspire higher levels of giving and sustained engagement.
  • Manage a portfolio of major donors (primarily NY-based), fostering deep relationships with current and new supporters of KACF, developing robust cultivation and stewardship strategies, and leading donor moves management and solicitation strategies
  • Partner with the President, VP of Development, and Associate Director of Events, to engage major donors in KACF events
  • Craft compelling cases for support and pitches, to deepen donors’ understanding of KACF’s impact and inspire major gifts
  • Identify and cultivate major donor prospects to grow KACF’s donor base and lead prospect moves management and tracking, with support from the Development Associate.
  • Serve as a visible and engaged KACF ambassador at development- and program-related events (e.g., Annual Gala, Women’s Luncheon, Giving Summit and other smaller donor cultivation events, meetings, and functions).
  • Serve as a development team leader and supervise the Development Associate, who supports donor relations, appeals, development operations, gift management, prospect research and special events.  
Qualifications
  • Passion for the work of KACF and ability to authentically articulate and champion its mission.
  • Mature, poised individual with exemplary leadership, strategic thinking, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of development experience, including frontline fundraising and direct donor engagement.
  • Comfortable and adept at collaborating with, engaging and influencing people in all types of positions, including high net worth individuals and philanthropists.
  • Exemplary goal-setting, planning, prioritization and follow-up skills. Highly organized, proactive, and thoughtful.
  • Track record of cultivating prospects and growing a donor base. Successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting individual donors and corporations in the New York City area.
  • Entrepreneurial and highly adaptable.
  • Strategic thinker, with the ability to connect strategy to hands-on implementation.
  • Demonstrated success meeting fundraising targets from individual donors, corporations, and special events; deep understanding of donor cultivation, stewardship, and moves management.
  • Effective communicator; adept at crafting donor appeals and correspondence and other kinds of persuasive fundraising messaging.
  • Computer savvy, with experience with donor database management and systems.
  • Ability to work during non-business hours (e.g., evenings, weekends) to support key events and opportunities. Ability and willingness to travel on occasion for donor meetings and cultivation events.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $170,000 with a generous benefits package.
