The Central Florida Division of AdventHealth Medical Group (AHMG) seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking Chief Operating Officer to provide executive leadership and operational oversight, to this complex, fast growing physician network. The Central Florida Division (CFD) represents one of the most dynamic and high-performing regions within AdventHealth, with a rapidly expanding ambulatory platform with over 2,000 providers (72 specialties) and 5400+ team members. The CFD’s 10 hospitals and hundreds of locations serve nearly 6 million patients each year. The division is anchored by AdventHealth Orlando—a nationally ranked quaternary referral center and the #1 hospital in Florida, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Based in Orlando and reporting to the AHMG Central Division President & CEO, this COO will drive performance, ensuring excellence in clinical quality, team engagement, strategic growth, and patient experience, while fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration. This high-impact role offers the opportunity to shape the operational and strategic direction of a network serving millions of patients annually. The COO will optimize care delivery, advance physician alignment, support business growth including provider recruitment and ensure seamless integration with hospitals and specialty services.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Operational Leadership: Directs all ambulatory and outpatient operations within AHMG CFD, ensuring systems, processes, and teams deliver high-performing, efficient, and sustainable outcomes.
  • Strategic Execution: Translates the AHMG strategic plan into actionable operating priorities and measurable performance goals that advance organizational growth and excellence.
  • Performance Accountability: Oversees achievement of key metrics across finance, quality, access, and experience; ensures corrective actions and continuous improvement where gaps exist.
  • Physician and Clinical Integration: Strengthens partnerships with physician leaders to align practice operations, service lines, and care models to organizational goals and clinical excellence.
  • Team Engagement and Culture: Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and engagement; ensures leadership development and workforce strategies that attract, retain, and grow talent.
  • Consumer Experience: Champions initiatives that enhance ease of access and patient satisfaction across all points of care.
  • Operational Excellence and Compliance: Ensures adherence to regulatory, financial, and ethical standards; promotes disciplined operational management and stewardship of resources.
  • Growth and Market Development: Leads identification, evaluation, and operationalization of new practice sites, service expansions, and partnerships to support market growth.
  • Innovation and Improvement: Promotes data-driven decision making, technology adoption, and best practices to enhance operational performance and clinical outcomes.
  • Governance and Collaboration: Serves as a key member of AHMG leadership and governance forums, driving system alignment and coordination across departments and entities.

Candidate Profile

Knowledge & Skills Required 

  • Proven ability to translate enterprise vision into actionable strategies that drive measurable operational and cultural outcomes across multiple sites and disciplines.
  • Deep expertise in physician practice management, healthcare operations, and performance improvement with a record of achieving financial, quality, and growth targets.
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and healthcare economics to inform sound operational and strategic decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams, foster accountability, and sustain engagement across complex, matrixed environments.
  • Skilled in leading transformation, implementing systemwide initiatives, and aligning teams through large-scale operational or structural change.
  • Effective collaborator who can partner with physicians, executives, and community stakeholders to advance shared objectives.
  • Uses data and metrics to identify trends, evaluate risk, and drive timely, informed decisions.
  • Clear, concise communicator able to inspire confidence, align stakeholders, and cascade priorities effectively across levels.
  • Competent with modern healthcare and business systems; leverages digital tools for operational insight and continuous improvement.

 Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, with at least five (5) years in physician network or medical group management required.
  • Experience in integrated delivery systems, multi-site operations, or clinically integrated networks preferred.
  • Preferred prior experience coaching, mentoring, or partnering with physicians in leadership or governance roles as well as membership or fellowship in professional organizations such as the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), or American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE).
