Role Summary 

This Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of OCHIN’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT). This position reports to the CEO and partners to develop and implement dynamic strategies across the organization that are communicated to the Board of Directors as instructed by the CEO. This strategic role is responsible for the overall day-to-day planning, implementing, managing, reporting and overseeing of all financial-related activities of the organization as well as the Outsourced Billing Services business line. The CFO will also oversee all financial compliance and recognition for government (federal and state) contracts and private grants and all other contracts. The finance team consists of approximately 30 fully remote FTEs spread across five time zones. Direct reports include one VP-level leader over Finance and Accounting. The primary Financial/ERP system is NetSuite which was implemented on May 1, 2025. 

The successful candidate will be a senior finance executive within a healthcare technology, managed services, or similar commercial organization of comparable or greater size to OCHIN. As a member of the executive team, they will demonstrate an ability to contribute as a strategic finance partner supporting corporate goals for growth while also providing an operational focus and discipline to ensure sustained realization of financial KPIs. Candidates should be well versed in contemporary financial management in corporate settings to include strategies in accessing capital and efficient scaling for growth. They will be capable of acting as a strategic business partner, operating in a fast-paced and self-funded growth environment to advance corporate strategies. They should also possess significant experience leading finance teams in a hybrid and/or remote work environment across multiple time zones. Lastly, the candidate will identify with a mission-centered organizational culture and values that are foundational to improving health outcomes in rural and medically underserved client communities. 

Primary Responsibilities 
  • Provides leadership in the development and continuous evaluation of short and long term strategic financial objectives. 
  • Demonstrates courageous leadership principles using creativity and visionary attributes to determine what is financially possible in pursuit of new business opportunities and service models. 
  • Leads with a steady, experienced and mature professional acumen to guide team members through organizational change and evolving market conditions. 
  • Ensures credibility of Finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts. 
  • Directs and oversees all aspects of the Finance team in fully remote environment. 
  • Actively engages in Cash Management, multi-year forecasting and obtaining financing when needed. 
  • Engages the board of directors to develop short, medium, and long-term financial plans and projections as directed by the CEO. 
  • Represents the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, funders, OCHIN members, vendors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc. 
  • Remains up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations. 
  • Evaluates and advises on the financial impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/ strategies and regulatory action. 
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with other ELT and Executive Councilmembers, identifying needs and offering a full range of business solutions. 
  • Advises executive management on the financial implications of business activities. 
  • Manages processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the organization. 
  • Provides recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities. 
  • Ensures that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. 
  • Executive sponsor for Outsourced Billing Services business unit. 
  • Negotiates with vendors around Master Service Agreements. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent relevant combination of education and experience. 
  • BS in Accounting or Finance or a related field is required; Graduate degree preferred. 
  • At least 10 – 15 years of experience as CFO or equivalent, preferably in healthcare technology and/or software, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies. 
  • Strong background in financial monitoring skills and financial and operational design. 
  • Strong leadership skills in working with peers, staff, vendors and OCHIN members. 
  • Strong experience and understanding in service delivery model. 
  • Significant experience in, or knowledge of, public accounting, nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, reporting, modeling tools for cash forecasting, breakeven analysis and bridging potential revenue gaps, healthcare and Information Technology. 
  • Familiarity with the healthcare landscape with payers, delivery systems, providers. 
  • Extensive audit, budgeting and forecasting experience to include expertise in cash management and multi-year budgeting for non-profit organizations. 
  • Experience with negotiating contracts. 
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification is preferred.
