About the Role

The Chief Clinical Enterprise Operations (CCEO) serves as a strategic, operational, and cultural leader for Inova Health System, jointly accountable, alongside the Chief, Clinical Enterprise (CCE) and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE), for the delivery of safe, high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered care across the continuum. This role is central to translating clinical priorities into operational execution, ensuring that Inova remains a top-tier, trusted healthcare system for patients, families, and communities. As part of the executive triad, the CCEO balances operational discipline, clinical integration, and cultural leadership, ensuring alignment between medical practice, nursing care, and system operations. While the CCEO reports formally to the CCE, the triad model is anchored in mutual accountability, shared decision making, and collective leadership. The CCEO is expected to drive enterprise-wide impact while modeling collaboration, resilience, and innovation.

Strategic and Operational Leadership
  • Lead systemwide clinical operations with a focus on high reliability, patient safety, and superior outcomes.
  • Align operational performance with Inova’s strategic plan, People Strategy, and margin improvement initiatives, ensuring care delivery advances both mission and financial sustainability.
  • Champion value-based care models, reducing variation and optimizing quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Drive operational readiness for emerging technologies including AI, virtual care, remote monitoring, robotics, and precision medicine.
  • Ensure strong disaster readiness and system resilience, maintaining continuity of care in times of disruption.
Triad Collaboration
  • Co-lead, with the CCE and CNE, system initiatives impacting clinical practice, workforce development, and operational performance.
  • Ensure seamless integration of medical, nursing, and operational strategies across all acute care, ambulatory, and physician service settings.
  • Serve as a visible champion of shared accountability, advancing Inova’s culture of trust, evidence-based practice, and collaborative problem-solving.
Performance and Financial Stewardship
  • Optimize throughput, capacity, and service line operations to meet patient demand, enhance access, and support growth.
  • Leads finance, service line, and market leaders to achieve margin improvement and sustainability targets.
  • Leverage data, analytics, and predictive modeling to drive system-level performance dashboards and rapid-cycle improvements.
  • Embed discipline around operational excellence, ensuring consistency, standardization, and accountability across markets.
People and Culture
  • Build a highly engaged, resilient workforce by addressing staffing challenges with innovative workforce models, pipeline development, and career progression strategies.
  • Strengthen managerial and leadership capability to support culture, retention, and team member well-being.
  • Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in patient care, workforce practices, and leadership succession.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, adaptability, and trust, enabling teams to thrive through change.
  • Develop and mentor operational leaders, strengthening succession pipelines, leadership capability, and accountability across the enterprise.
Community and Market Position
  • Position Inova as a regional leader in care delivery and community health by forging partnerships with physicians, payers, community organizations, and government agencies.
  • Advance population health outcomes through community-based programs, preventive care initiatives, and cross-sector collaborations.
  • Strengthen brand and reputation by demonstrating systemwide excellence in patient experience, quality, and community impact.
 Qualifications - The successful candidate will have:
  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, nursing, or related field.
  • 15 years of progressive leadership experience in a complex health system, spanning hospital, ambulatory, and physician services.
  • Proven success leading large-scale operational and clinical integration efforts across multiple sites.
  • Expertise in quality improvement, safety, compliance and value-base care delivery.
  • Demonstrates strong digital fluency, partnering with technology leaders to advance digital front door, virtual care, and AI-enabled solutions that enhance access, experience, and operational performance.
  • Skilled in leading in a matrixed, triad-driven model with shared accountability.
  • Exceptional communicator and change leader, with demonstrated ability to influence across disciplines.
  • Deep experience in data-driven decision-making to improve quality, access, efficiency and financial performance.
