William & Mary, a historic and forward-thinking institution, seeks an experienced, dedicated, and strategic Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Admissions (AVPDOA). The AVPDOA is the senior leader for undergraduate admissions and reports directly to the Vice Provost for the Enrollment Strategy. The new AVPDOA will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals and a community deeply committed to academic distinction, innovation, student learning, and public impact. The next AVPDOA will be instrumental in supporting William & Mary’s Vision 2026 priorities, advancing strategic admissions efforts that attract and enroll an academically driven and dynamic undergraduate student body at one of the nation’s leading public research universities.

William & Mary (W&M), located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1693 and is the second-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. As a Public Ivy and an R1 institution, the university combines the resources and opportunities of a major research university with the close-knit, personalized experience of a smaller liberal arts institution. William & Mary enrolls more than 9,500 students, including more than 6,900 undergraduates, almost all (99 percent) full-time. Thirty-four percent identify as students of color, and the undergraduate student body is roughly 65 percent in-state.

Students have over 115 academic offerings and pre-professional programs for bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, professional, and certificate degrees across the six academic schools, the College of Arts & Sciences, the Raymond A. Mason School of Business, the School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics, the Batten School of Coastal & Marine Science/Virginia Institute of Marine Science, the School of Education, and the Law School. For fiscal year 2026, William & Mary had an operating budget of $671 million and an endowment in excess of $1.6 billion.

The AVPDOA provides executive oversight for the strategic direction, integration, and continuous advancement of the university’s undergraduate admissions enterprise. They play a central role in advancing a comprehensive, data-informed enrollment strategy at one of the nation’s most selective public research universities. The AVPDOA oversees a significant operating budget and a talented team of approximately 25 professional staff with three direct reports, including two Senior Associate Deans of Admissions and the Administrative and Fiscal Manager.

The AVPDOA will ensure that recruitment and selection strategies are analytically grounded, mission-aligned, and thoughtfully designed to enroll academically exceptional classes in a dynamic and increasingly competitive environment. They will combine visionary leadership, predictive analytics, market intelligence, and entrepreneurial thinking to strengthen the university’s competitive positioning and long-term enrollment sustainability.

The successful candidate will have an earned advanced degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and senior-level experience in admissions leadership, as well as significant professional experience managing complex recruitment strategies in a competitive national or global environment. They will bring demonstrated expertise in predictive modeling, enrollment forecasting, and data-informed admissions strategy, bolstered by strong financial acumen with experience linking admissions investments to measurable enrollment outcomes. They will have ample experience leading and developing high-performing professional teams and have proficiency in CRM systems (preferably Slate) and advanced enrollment technologies.

This is a full-time position that will be based on-site in Virginia. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and includes a generous benefits package. The salary range for this role is $170,000 – $185,000.

Nominations and applications should be submitted electronically by Thursday, May 14th for full consideration. Application review will begin immediately. Applications should include a curriculum vitae/resumé and a detailed letter of interest that responds to the leadership agenda and the desired attributes for the AVPDOA expressed in this search prospectus.
