California Virtual Academies (CAVA) invites applications and nominations for the role of Executive Director of Human Resources, a pivotal leadership position responsible for guiding and evolving the full people function across a complex, multi-site, and virtual enterprise. The Executive Director will shape and execute a people-first strategy aligned with organizational values and long-term business objectives, ensuring that talent, culture, and performance remain central to the organization’s success.

The Executive Director will lead the modernization of HR policies, systems, and practices; elevate the effectiveness and reputation of the HR function; and foster a high-performing, inclusive culture that supports both growth and engagement. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor to leadership, a catalyst for change, and a champion for building scalable, equitable people practices in a dynamic virtual environment.

The Executive Director of Human Resources serves as the organization’s Chief Human Resource Officer, providing strategic direction and oversight for the full HR function across a multi-site, virtual environment. This role is responsible for shaping and executing a people-first strategy that aligns organizational values with business and academic goals while modernizing HR policies, systems, and practices. The Executive Director leads all HR operations, talent systems, and recruitment strategy; partners closely with executive leadership, directors, academic teams, principals, and Heads of Schools; and acts as a trusted advisor on workforce planning, performance, and organizational effectiveness. As a steward of culture and inclusion, this leader brings a consultative, forward-thinking mindset to transforming both HR's impact and perception, fostering a high-performing, inclusive culture that supports employees and advances the organization’s mission. Positions reporting to the Executive Director include the Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition and the Director of Human Resources, with a total team of ten.
