About MEDA

Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting economic development and job creation. Since 1973, MEDA has partnered with Latino and working-class families in San Francisco’s Mission District to build lasting economic power by supporting homeownership, small business growth, career advancement, and educational success. As the Mission faces increasing pressures from rising costs and displacement, MEDA is charting a bold path forward by expanding affordable housing, growing community-owned businesses, advancing protective policies, and scaling proven solutions across San Francisco and beyond. Rooted in community voice and strengthened by decades of impact, MEDA continues to shape the next chapter of the Mission’s story with the same commitment, creativity, and collective power that have defined its work for more than fifty years.

Through integrated strategies spanning housing stability, small business support, workforce development, financial capability, and youth leadership, MEDA equips families and entrepreneurs with the tools to thrive today while driving systems-level change for the future.

What began as a neighborhood-driven effort has grown into a nationally recognized model for inclusive economic development. Grounded in the Mission District, MEDA has seen firsthand how economic opportunity transforms lives and is now expanding that impact to communities nationwide.
