The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is seeking an experienced behavioral health operations leader to serve as its inaugural Assistant Commissioner of Hospital Operations. Reporting to the Commissioner of DBHDD, the Assistant Commissioner is responsible for the overall leadership, patient care, and direction of the five psychiatric hospitals in the DBHDD system.

Essential Duties
- Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for Georgia's five state psychiatric hospitals
- Oversee hospital operations, clinical services, and quality improvement initiatives across all state hospital facilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of hospital administrators, clinicians, and support staff
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and quality metrics
- Develop and implement operational strategies that enhance patient care, safety, and outcomes
- Collaborate with the Commissioner and executive leadership team on departmental strategic initiatives
- Manage budgets and resources to optimize hospital operations and service delivery
- Represent DBHDD in external partnerships with healthcare systems, community providers, and other state agencies
- Champion a culture of excellence, innovation, and employee engagement across hospital operations
- In partnership with physician, nursing, and operational leadership, supports the provision of harmonious, collaborative, safe and high-quality care and the timely and efficient use of assets
- Enhance the current service to develop a productive, transparent, and safe place to work for employees and high quality and efficient place for our patients
- Directly manage the administrative and operational staff
- Work in concert with the Chief Medical Director to maintain quality and safety standards
- Take a leadership role in planning and space allocation for all current and future behavioral health assets
- Partner with clinical leaders and finance on all capital planning
- Develop and manage hospital operating budgets
- Facilitate effective cost containment practices through monitoring of volume trends, proactive management of capacity (physical and human resources), supplies, service contracts, and professional services agreements
- Examine, analyze, and interpret financial reports for the purpose of giving advice, preparing statements and projections, and ultimately managing resources
Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in Public Health, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience demonstrating advanced knowledge in healthcare leadership)
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in behavioral health, mental health services, or healthcare administration
- Minimum 5 years in a senior executive role with direct responsibility for multi-site or large-scale operations
- Demonstrated expertise in hospital operations, inpatient mental health services, or behavioral health system management
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing large budgets and optimizing resource allocation
- Proven track record of leading organizational change, improving clinical outcomes, and enhancing operational efficiency
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead diverse teams and build collaborative relationships
- Knowledge of mental health treatment modalities, clinical best practices, and evidence-based approaches to behavioral health care
- Understanding of regulatory requirements including CMS, state licensing, and accreditation standards
Other Desirable Attributes
- Experience with forensic mental health services or specialized psychiatric populations
- Background in quality improvement methodologies and performance management
- Experience implementing technology solutions in healthcare settings
- Previous experience working in state government or public sector healthcare
