Evelyn F. McKnight Chairs for Research on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory

The College of Medicine at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications for two senior investigators to fill the two Evelyn F. McKnight Chairs for Research on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory supported by the McKnight Brain Research Foundation. These endowed chairs are specifically designed for senior investigators working on translational and clinically applied research into determinants of brain health and prevention of cognitive decline with aging  

The successful candidates will have an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or PhD degree and, in addition to their research program, will be expected to establish an active clinical practice, if applicable, in their area of expertise. Successful applicants will be matched with a clinical department in the College of Medicine that best meets their research focus and clinical specialty. The Departments of Neuroscience, Psychiatry, and Neurology offer a rich academic environment in clinical, molecular, cellular, and systems neuroscience. The College of Medicine is housed with the Health Sciences Center which is the country’s only academic health center with six health-related colleges on a single, contiguous campus. The successful candidates will join a robust community of researchers who are committed to advancing the understanding of brain aging and developing interventions to promote optimal cognitive and functional capacity throughout the lifespan.   

About the Positions

The Evelyn F. McKnight Chairs for Research on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory will provide strategic vision and leadership for the McKnight Brain Research Foundation. These roles offer a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on understanding healthy cognition with aging and reducing the burden of cognitive aging and memory loss- making a national and international impact.

Responsibilities 

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for translational and clinically applied research on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory within the McKnight Brain Research Foundation
• Lead and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of investigators focused on translational and clinically applied research on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory.
• Secure extramural funding to support translational and clinically applied research on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory.
• Mentor junior faculty and provide leadership in fostering a collaborative research environment.
• Recruit additional faculty with a focus on building a collaborative team of translational and clinically applied researchers on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory
• Represent the McKnight Brain Institute and the University of Florida College of Medicine in regional, national, and international collaborations focused on translational and clinically applied research on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory.

Qualifications

• MD, PhD or MD/PhD degree or equivalent
• Demonstrated expertise in translational and clinically applied research on Brain Health, Cognitive Aging and Memory, with preference for research programs focused on interventional studies.
• Strong record of securing extramural funding from federal agencies (NIH, CDC, HRSA, AHRQ) or other prestigious organizations.
• At least 3 years of administrative experience in leading multi-disciplinary research teams.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
• A passion for reducing the impact of cognitive aging and memory loss.
• Eligibility for a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor within the College of Medicine at the University of Florida.
