UPMC health care system is actively recruiting for a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA. A Magnet-designated 458-bed hospital, UPMC Hamot offers a full complement of inpatient and outpatient services and serves as a regional, tertiary referral hub and Level II Trauma Center supported by 4,235 employees and over 650 physicians. UPMC Hamot provides highly specialized tertiary care, including chemoembolization, kidney transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, deep brain stimulation, and microvascular decompression. Reporting to the President of UPMC Hamot, the CNO provides executive nursing management, direction, and leadership for UPMC Hamot and matrixed responsibility for nursing practice for the Northwest PA and New York regions. This position is responsible for driving, supporting, and modeling a caring service-oriented professional culture focused on employee engagement, quality, patient safety, service excellence, fiscal responsibility, and the overall patient experience. The CNO serves as a member of the senior leadership team building and supporting effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external constituents and stakeholders and ensuring optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning.
Required Qualifications:
- BSN and Master’s degree in Nursing or related health care field required; PhD or DNP in Nursing preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in senior nursing leadership roles in a hospital or health system of relevant size, scale, and complexity.
- Ability to successfully navigate a matrixed organizational structure.
- Experience in a Magnet designated environment will be seen favorably.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including staff development, mentoring, and coaching.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal, presentation and platform skills.
- Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, or ability to obtain Pennsylvania licensure required; National Nurse Executive Certification (ANCC NEA-BC) preferred.
