The Chief Nursing Officer for UPMC Cole is the senior nursing leader of the facility and, in concert with the President and Director of Operations, is a member of the senior leadership team. The CNO provides executive nursing management, direction, and leadership for the facility and is responsible for driving, supporting, and modeling a caring service-oriented professional culture focused on employee engagement, quality, patient safety, service excellence, fiscal responsibility, and the overall patient experience. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the CNO ensures effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external constituents and stakeholders. This individual participates with site, regional and system level leaders, and medical staff in planning, promoting, and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities.

Required Education, Qualifications and Experience  
  • BSN required; Master’s degree in Nursing or related health care field required; PhD or DNP in Nursing preferred. 
  • At least five years of progressively increasing experience in senior nursing leadership roles; depth managing diverse patient care functions in a hospital or matrixed health system of relevant size, scale, and complexity. 
  • Prior CNO experience will be seen favorably. 
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, or ability to obtain Pennsylvania licensure; National Nurse Executive Certification (ANCC NEA-BC) preferred. 
  • Ability to successfully navigate a matrixed organizational structure. 
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including staff development, mentoring, and coaching. Excellent communication (verbal and written) presentation and platform skills.
