THE OPPORTUNITY
We are proud to be partnering with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), on a search for the Vice President, Operations position for the UPMC West Shore hospital.
This position is the senior site operations leader who, in concert with the vice president of Medical Affairs and chief nursing officer, is responsible for the overall day-to-day leadership of the facility. This position is responsible for developing operational policies and procedures, as well as standards of care and standards of practice of the hospital that result in the delivery of the optimal patient experience. This position oversees the operational performance and financial outcomes of various departments including clinical and non-clinical services through both direct and matrixed accountabilities. In collaboration with service line executives and other UPMC management, the Vice President, Operations has responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the activities of all operational areas of the facility.The Vice President, Operations, continually evaluates the timely adjustment of organization strategies and plans to meet changing national, state, and local needs. Exercises management responsibility in ensuring that efficient services are designed to meet the needs of patients, physicians, the public, and the staff. The Vice President, Operations reports to the President of UPMC’s market flagship facility, UPMC Harrisburg Hospital, and is also supported by regional shared services such as finance, HR, facilities, and other ancillary departments.
THE ORGANIZATION
UPMC West Shore Hospital is a comprehensive, five-story, 166-bed acute-care facility located in Hampden Township, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania on the west shore of the Susquehanna River. Established in 2014, it is part of the UPMC in Central PA network and serves as a vital healthcare resource for the West Shore region of the greater Harrisburg, Pennsylvania market. UPMC West Shore shares a license with the region’s flagship UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. UPMC West Shore achieved its second consecutive Magnet® designation from the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® in 2021.UPMC West Shore is an expanding campus in a growing market with a large network of outpatient services and physician practices, including thoracic and surgical care, the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute, orthopaedic and spine care, and women’s health. In 2020, the Emergency Department expanded by more than 30%. It has also become the hub for UPMC Hillman Cancer Center within the central Pennsylvania region. In April 2025, UPMC and Select Medical partnered to open the 20-bed Helen M. Simpson Rehabilitation Hospital - West Shore for inpatient rehab within the hospital.

Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in related field is required.
- A minimum of five years of experience in operational management with at least five years' experience at a senior executive level and a strong commitment to operations.

- Financial management: Ability to understand financial reports, develops basic financial models, and identifies trends, variances, and opportunities.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
- Experience with hospital-based quality initiatives.
- Experience with hospital-based staffing and productivity initiatives.
- Experience with hospital-based finance planning and execution.
