The Residential Energy Services Network, Inc. or RESNET is a not-for-profit, membership organization governed by a board of directors, who are elected by the membership. In April 1995, the National Association of State Energy Officials and Energy Rated Homes of America founded RESNET to develop a national market for home energy rating systems and energy-efficient mortgages. RESNET is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited standards making body for building energy efficiency rating and certification systems in the United States involving:
- A consensus-based standard development and amendment process
- Transparent review and adoption process
- Formal public review and comment process
The Executive Director will oversee a staff of 18 professionals, including 5 direct reports. RESNET’s annual operating budget is approximately $6M, with rating registry fees serving as the largest source of revenue. The 18-person Board of Directors meets remotely six times annually and twice in person.
