The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean of Libraries for Research (Associate Dean).
Founded in 1848, at the same time that Wisconsin was granted statehood, UW-Madison is the oldest and largest public university in the state. It is the flagship institution within the University of Wisconsin System, committed to excellence in research, teaching, and public service. In 1866 it became a land-grant university and was a founding member of the Association of American Universities in 1900. It consistently ranks among the world's top research institutions. UW-Madison manages revenues of nearly $4 billion annually, has a student body of approximately 52,000 representing 116 countries, and employs more than 27,000 people, including about 2,300 faculty, plus 5,800 graduate assistants and 8,000 student employees.
The Associate Dean of Libraries for Research Services is responsible for promoting and advancing research support and collaboration across all campus libraries, assuming the comprehensive coordination of library research services and activities. Reporting directly to the Dean and Vice Provost of Libraries, the AD leads the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of strategic directions and priorities pertaining to these library services and functions.
For the next Associate Dean, UW-Madison seeks a collaborative and innovative library professional, a superb strategist, an impassioned advocate for libraries, and an astute, communicative, and transparent leader. The ideal candidate will evince a commitment to and a passion for research universities and the mission of a land-grant institution; possess a sophisticated understanding of the current and future states of libraries; exhibit nuanced thinking about organizational structures and their evolution; an orientation towards teamwork and shared governance; and show a record of demonstrated leadership in enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
UW-Madison Libraries requires a leader with a Master's degree from an American Libraries Association (ALA) accredited program or another appropriate advanced degree and a minimum of five years of relevant leadership experience, two of which must have been in an academic library setting.
