
The VP of Operations role for Community and Ambulatory Services, ASCs in Western PA is a newly created role that will evolve as the new division continues to develop. The incumbent will provide leadership to those individuals responsible for the operations of the ambulatory surgical centers. He/She will provide operational leadership to special access projects and will engage with external partners in the development of de novo ambulatory surgical centers. The VP of Operations will provide leadership across all workstreams of the division and will work across multiple capacities as the division grows.
Responsibilities
- Carries out system initiatives for the division across all campuses.
- Partners with leaders in finance, HR, data analytics, legal, marketing, real estate, hospital presidents, etc. to ensure the advancement of divisional priorities across ambulatory surgical centers. Assists divisional leadership with business development and growth in services performed outside of the hospital including but not limited to surgical care.
- Serves as a liaison to the insurance services division and UPMC Enterprises.
- Assures efficient and effective operations all ASCs in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures and legal/regulatory pronouncements.
- Continues the effort to streamline the divisional management structure and decision-making processes (including goal setting, communications and measurement of performance).
- Focuses on changing the landscape in healthcare through innovative care delivery models, physician partnerships, affiliation strategies and organizational re-design.
- Explores new partnership models with physicians and providers to enhance access, quality and growth through value-based reimbursement and alternative payment systems.
- Strategic Planning and Management: Assists the President and CAS leadership to develop the strategic direction and implement short and long-term goals for the Division applicable to the ASC setting.
- Maintains a current knowledge of all types of health care organizations including health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, and provider-sponsored organizations.
- Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field.
- 10 years of experience with 5 years in a management capacity; OR Master's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field with 6 years of experience and 5 years in a management capacity.
- Experience in an ambulatory surgical center setting, emphasizing accounting systems, knowledge of third-party billing and reimbursement mechanisms, grant and contract administration, financial reporting, internal controls, operational management, information systems, and business planning are required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, staff, CEO, CFO, corporate, university, hospital administration, and other senior leadership. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to physician BU management, preferred.
- Prior experience in an academic medical setting, preferred. Prior experience in specialty administration, preferred.
