Role Summary:

The Finance and Business Operations Director reports to the Vice President of Support Services and Chief of Staff and has a matrixed reporting responsibility to the VP of Emory Healthcare Primary Care Service Line, and partners with executive leaders to manage the financial and revenue cycle performance of the entity. There are approximately 230 providers, 140 physicians who are a mix of Emory faculty (family medicine and internal medicine) and non-faculty providers and 70 advanced practice providers (APPs). In the next three years the primary care service line will continue to grow adding 39 physicians and 23 APPs. The Finance and Business Operations Director has six (6) direct reports (Financial Planning Analysts, Senior Operations Manager, Financial Analysts). The service line has approximately $370M in revenue, with shared savings of about $20M. Emory will continue to move to a full risk model in the next 5 years.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the financial operations, strategic financial planning, and business development initiatives within the Emory Healthcare Network inclusive of the Emory Healthcare Primary Care Service Line.
  • Ensure access and management of patient panel size in order to ensure patients are seen by their primary care provider to manage health issues.
  • Meet aggressive recruitment target for additional physicians and APPs.
  • Monitors financial metrics, KPIs, and key financial indicators to assess the organization's fiscal health, including monthly budget tracking.
  • Manage metrics associated with value-based agreements to meet financial goals
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and Emory Healthcare standards and policies.
  • Leads the budgeting process, working with clinical and administrative leaders to create realistic financial plans.
  • Develops and implements forecasting models to anticipate financial trends and challenges.
  • Assesses performance to budgets and forecasts and develops action plans to improve unfavorable performance.
  • Prepares and presents financial reports, forecasts, and analyses to support decision-making processes.
  • Performs in-depth financial evaluations of new business ventures, service expansions, and major capital expenditures.
  • Oversees the development and administration of the Physician and APP compensation plans, including the development of future compensation models.
  • Manages and mentors a team of finance professionals, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Responsible for tracking, receipt and payment of all invoices, including obtaining proper review and sign-off prior to processing.
  • Works closely with cross-functional teams including operations, administration, and clinical departments to align financial strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborates with clinical and administrative leaders on the development of the Physician Incentive plan, compensation plans for other clinical providers and administers the disbursement of funds in accordance with the plan’s criteria.
  • Communicates financial insights and recommendations to stakeholders, including executive leaders, and external partners.

Given the responsibilities of the role, ideally candidates will have held leadership roles in a large, matrix health system and have navigated the complexities of building a high quality primary service with faculty and non-faculty providers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field (Master's/MBA preferred).
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in a senior financial leadership role within the healthcare industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare finance, reimbursement systems, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to drive innovation and change.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in the state of Georgia. Compensation is competitive with national benchmarks and commensurate with the experience, achievement and responsibilities of this position.
