
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry is accepting applications for the position of General Psychiatry Residency Program Director. This position is for a full-time Clinician-Educator eligible to be appointed at the rank of Associate or full Professor. This role reports directly to the Chair and Associate Chair for Education, as well as to URMC’s institutional Office of GME and the ACGME.
URMC has a strong general psychiatry residency program with 32 residents. The program receives 1200 applications annually for 8 first-year slots. URMC residents reflect a diverse and wide array of life experience, intersectional identities, careers before medicine, and areas of interest both within the field of psychiatry and beyond. About half of the residents pursue fellowships. Advanced fellowships include Addiction; Child & Adolescent; Consult-Liaison; Forensic; and Geriatric Psychiatry. The Residency Program offers exposure to diverse populations with a Spanish-speaking mental health clinic; Deaf Wellness Clinic; and Transgender Clinic. In addition, URMC has fully integrated the Medicine in Psychiatry Service (MIPS) program, with embedded medicine units in our psychiatry clinics and chemical dependency treatment settings. The Department of Psychiatry at University of Rochester Medical Center has had a long and distinguished history since John Romano and George Engel founded the Department in 1945. Our department is the birthplace of the "Biopsychosocial Model of Medical Illness" that serves as the cornerstone of education and training of students and trainees across the field of psychiatry. With the biopsychosocial model as the core organizing principle, we strive together to develop the Rochester model of psychiatry as the international leader in clinical care, community service, education, and research in psychiatry.
Minimum Qualifications
- Board certification in general psychiatry
- Eligibility for an unrestricted NYS medical license
- Three (3) or more years of psychiatry education program leadership, administration, and teaching in an ACGME accredited training program
- Demonstration of outstanding academic accomplishments and trajectory which may include innovative educational program development, excellence in teaching, clinical leadership, or research
- Strong communication skills and leadership capability
- Track record of excellence in educational and academic endeavors
- Evidence of capability to contribute to our Departmental commitment to diversity, equity, inclusivity, and excellence. Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring learners from historically marginalized backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Academic leadership experience serving in assistant/associate or program director roles
- Commitment to interprofessional education

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $217,143 to $360,701. The referenced pay range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job's salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries.
